Ano 08 (2021) – Número 02 - Editorial e Sumário

Caros Leitores do BOMGEAM,

Dear Readers of BOMGEAM,

The number 2 of our bulletin BOMGEAM edition 8 (2021), repeating what we wrote in the announcement of the previous number, also arrives with the world, as a whole, still under the perverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which emerged in China. It mainly affected rich and developing countries, some of them under the effect of the third wave of contagion. Brazil, fortunately, at least for the time being, is under mild conditions, after its second wave, which was very high, with a high rate of lethality and contagion. We are surrounded by the danger of the new omicron strain, which has mainly affected Western Europe. Vaccination has already reached, on average, more than 76% of our population in its first dose and 67 % in the second and almost 12 in the third, and must have contributed substantially to the improvement of the pandemic picture.

The country has already resumed practically all face-to-face activities, especially private ones, but on the other hand, public schools for kindergarten, elementary and high school, as well as Federal Universities and Institutes, therefore of higher education, are four semesters away, that is, two academic years. Its negative consequences for the country are immeasurable.

And as we said in the two previous issues (BOMGEAM 7 2020 numbers 1 and 2; 8 (2021 Number 1) and the current one, 8 (2021) Number 2, the current one also suffered the consequences of the persistence of the pandemic, but with difficulties we’re trying to keep that bulletin’s flame burning.

This issue includes 3 original articles dedicated to the diamond in the Amazon. These are results obtained in master’s dissertations from the Post-Graduate Program in Geology and Geochemistry at PPGG from Federal University of Pará, supervised by Professor Marcondes. These are important data, given the lack of knowledge about this nice mineral in this region, and which, unfortunately, have not been published. In this issue, we publish data from the dissertation of Marcus Antônio Girão Brito, whose dissertation was defended in 2000, on the diamonds of the Tapajós River. Readers will obviously note that this is information from 21 years ago whose texts have not been updated in terms of reference and discussion with current knowledge. The original content and discussions were kept, with some comments, when strictly necessary. In a next issue of BOMGEAM, we will present the works referring to Helmut Hohn’s master’s thesis (in memoriam) on the diamonds of the Tocantins River.

Good reading and that new good times reappear, as we already hoped in numbers 1 and 2 of 7 (2020) and 1 of 8 (2021).
